How to calculate a discounted price?
Formula: Final price = Original × (1 − discount ÷ 100)
Savings: Original × discount ÷ 100
Multiply the original price by 0.80 (= 1 − 0.20). Example: $150 × 0.80 = $120. You save $30. Our calculator does this automatically for any percentage.
Divide the sale price by (1 − discount rate). Example: an item is $70 after a 30% discount → original price = $70 ÷ 0.70 = $100.
Successive discounts don't add up. -30% then -20% ≠ -50%. Correct: $100 × 0.70 = $70, then $70 × 0.80 = $56 (total -44%, not -50%).
